Among the week's festivities are several fun events, including the Little Olympics, International Kitefest, numerous concerts, the St. Patrick's Day Parade, and the National Shag Dance Championship. The week commences with a Welcome Kickoff Celebration at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center, 2101 North Oak Street. Most events are free and open to the public.

| | | | | Description: Sponsored by the Waccamaw Arts & Crafts Guild, this is the Strand's premier fine arts and crafts festival. Over 100 artists, most from the South, present a variety of works, from traditional oil paintings to abstract meal sculpture and art glass. Children's activities, along with ample food and beverage, round out the offerings. The Guild holds similar events at Chapin Park in July and October.

| | | | | | Description: Otherwise known as the Annual Spring Bike Rally, this event attracts some 200,000 motorcycle enthusiasts who enjoy a number of fun events, in addition to cruising "the Loop." One big attraction is the Motorcycle Expo at Murrells Inlet, a huge swap meet and gathering on over 20 acres. There are also poker runs, concerts, tattoo contests, and a bunch of other cool things to do. A favorite for over 60 years. Second week in May.

Little River does itself proud each year with this enjoyable waterfront event, offering not only lots of food and beverages, but a vast assortment of arts and crafts vendors, children's activities and musical performances. There are even inexpensive helicopter rides. Spare yourself the headache of parking close to the festival site take advantage of the free shuttles and park-and-ride lots along Highway 17. Proceeds benefit several local charities.

Although there are vents all over the Grand Strand, most (like the construction of the worl's tallest sand castle) take place at or near Plyler Park. Other activities include a beach tennis and volleyball tournaments, an air show, a 5K run, beauty pageants, and numerous concerts from local and national performers. There are also bocce ball, horseshoe, and watermelon eating contests. And there's plenty of things for the kids' to do as well!

| | | | | Description: Officially known as the PGA TOUR Superstore World Amateur Handicap Championship, this four-day tournament is held at about 70 of Myrtle Beach's best courses. Over 5000 amateur golfers participate, coming from all 50 states and 18 other countries. Flight winners go on to compete in the final championship round at the Dunes Golf Club. The player registartion fee is $475, and includes four rounds of golf on four different courses, admission to nightly functions at the convention center, and several additional benefits.

| | | | | Description: Every year, on the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Intracoastal Waterway becomes a spectacle of twinkling lights and holiday cheer. Decorated boats of all shapes and sizes parade from Tilghman Point to Dock Holidays Marina, piloted by spirited folks from all walks of life. Unless you're lucky enough to get invited to a party at a private home along the waterway, the best spots for watching the activity are the various marinas along the way. It's free to watch, but spectators are asked to donate a new unwrapped toy (or cash) drop off points are located all along the parade route.

The excitement starts Thursday with the Marathon Expo, a free event held at a local hotel. Friday night the festivities continue with a 5K run and a one mile Family Fun Run. Saturday morning there are four races: the marathon itself, a wheelchair marathon, a half marathon, and a marathon relay. The weekend winds down with a series of bicycle races on Sunday. Most races start and end at Coastal Federal Field. Watching the races is free, so find a spot along the route to cheer on your favorite runners!
